The Township of Commerce borders West Bloomfield, White Lake, Milford Twp, Walled Lake, Wolverine Lake, Novi and Wixom. According to the 2010, the U.S. Census, the population is just over 40,000. The terrain is rolling hills, but there are large expanses of flat land on which farms and, more recently, subdivisions are built. Commerce used to be a weekend and summer retreat for Detroiters because of the area's lakes and water activities. Recent development has changed those cottages to permanent homes.

Commerce Township is known as the "Lakes Area". The most popular lakes include: Union Lake, Commerce Lake, Lower Straits Lake, Proud Lake, Wolverine Lake and Lake Sherwood.

The Senior Center is a focal point where older persons come together for services, activities and socialization. Our center hosts a variety of programs  and services such as education, creative arts, recreation, advocacy, leadership development, health and other supportive systems. These programs are designed to support the senior community, their independence and to encourage them to become more involved in the community.

Mill Race Park
Located between Commerce Rd. and Farr St.

Ph: (248) 926-0063 Two covered bridges cross the headwaters of the Huron River in this park. Walking trails run from Farr Street in the old village to Commerce Rd. and across to the Mill Race Shopping Center. Benches and picnic tables are available in the park for enjoyment of visitors to witness this natural environment and the wildlife. Neighborhood children have been enjoying crayfish and turtle hunting for generations at this site.

There is a covered bridge that opens up the park to more trails on the other side of Berry Lake. A picnic pavilion provides shelter place for people to enjoy the wide variety of wildlife that thrives on the lake.

This park is the home of two (2) ball leagues, the Interlakes Girls Softball League and the Commerce Little League. The leagues have built and maintained the baseball diamonds through generous donations and the volunteerism of its players' families.

The Township of Commerce provides garbage and recycling pickup. You are required to use a Curb Cart. This is a special bin that is designed to be lifted and dumped into the truce with the lift devise. The operator never leaves the truck.
